Sigiriya

A historic rock fortress famous for its ancient palace ruins, stunning frescoes, and landscaped gardens.

Rising majestically above the central plains of Sigiriya, Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic and historically rich destinations. Often referred to as the “Lion Rock,” this ancient rock fortress was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century and stands as a remarkable blend of engineering, art, and nature.

At the summit lies the ruins of a royal palace, while the surrounding complex features beautifully landscaped water gardens, frescoes, and the famous Sigiriya Mirror Wall, once polished to reflect like glass. The entrance, shaped like a massive lion’s paws, gives the site its legendary name, Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

Encircled by lush forests and rich biodiversity, Sigiriya offers both cultural significance and breathtaking scenery. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it attracts travelers from around the world who come to witness its historical grandeur, climb its steep pathways, and take in panoramic views from the top.
